For over two decades, Jane Thomas built Far End Stables into a trusted name in pre-training racehorses. She worked in the South African racing industry from 1990 and held an open trainer's licence with the National Horse Racing Authority from 1990–2000. Jane even offered assistance with yearling selections at all major horse sales. With a lifetime of experience, she dedicated herself to preparing young horses for success, ensuring they developed the strength, confidence, and discipline needed for the next stage of their careers. Her sharp eye for potential, unwavering standards and deep care for every horse earned her the respect of trainers, owners, and breeders across South Africa. Jane's legacy is one of excellence, and her influence will always be a part of Far End Pre-Training.
Philile Zuma
Now leading the stables, Philile Zuma was personally mentored and trained by Jane, who recognised her talent and dedication. Philile originally studied law and international relations at Wits University with dreams of a corporate career, but the realities of unemployment in South Africa required her to adapt and reinvent herself. Fortunately, Philile's hidden potential caught Jane's keen eye, and she took her under her wing. Initially joining as an administrator, Philile's passion for horses quickly saw her immersed in every aspect of pre-training. Under Jane's guidance, she mastered the skills required to continue the work with the same attention to detail and care. Committed to upholding the standards that made Far End Stables renowned, Philile ensures that every horse receives the expert preparation it needs, carrying Jane's legacy forward with confidence and dedication.

Some of our lungers have been with us for 30 years, while our riders have over 15 years of experience working on our farm.
